My Favorite Things, Part 4

By Chris Howard | May 26, 2009

This is part four – the final in this series of my favorite customer service tools. This one seems simple enough, but for some reason, no one thinks of it any more. What a cool thing to find in your mailbox – a friendly note or postcard.

#4 A Note or Postcard.

Robin Roberts of Good Morning America made a resolution this year to start using handwritten letters to people. She said she wants to write old-fashioned letters. I think this is a GREAT resolution to make anytime for us as business owners to remember.

When was the last time you got a great note via snail mail?

If you don’t have the time or inclination to do a full-fledged letter, there are plenty of companies on the Internet that provide great business related greetings – both postcards and greeting cards. Google “business greeting cards,” and you’ll find more resources than you’ll ever need.

There’s a special connection when a customer sees a handwritten envelope come in that cannot be duplicated by any other medium. It doesn’t matter what you think of your handwriting, your customer will love it!

While these four tools I have shared with you are not any big secret, I do believe that most are becoming a lost art in customer service today. They will probably always top my list of favorite things and tools for holding on to my customers.

Just remember that customer retention should never be underestimated!
